L.V. Rogers Secondary School in beautiful Nelson, British Columbia welcomes international students from all over the world. The school and staff understand the importance of creating a global society within their smaller school community. International students enjoy the top quality education of this award-winning school, but also the friendly acceptance and safety of a small city.
International students from Korea, Mexico, China, Taiwan, Thailand, Germany, Japan, Brazil, Spain, Latvia, and Mongolia have been a very important part of our school since 1998.
THE SCHOOL AIMS TO...
- provide an atmosphere conducive to individual growth so that students develop intellectually, physically, socially, culturally and emotionally;
- facilitate the development of self-confidence, emotional well-being, responsibility, excellence, dependability, leadership, honesty and respect;
- provide the opportunity to acquire skills that enable the student to become a life long learner and contribute effectively to society; and
- provide information and encourage the growth of decision making and problem solving skills which will enable students to make effective personal choices.
SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE
Students who choose LVR as their destination for international study will be supported with formal ESL instruction from a qualified teacher. In addition to learning English, students have a range of language electives to choose from such as Spanish, German, and French. There are formal French Immersions classes, (Francais Langue et Sciences Humaines) offer at LVR for students. Both Communications 11 and 12 and the academic English 11 and 12 are also offered.

Christmas is a delightful time of year for Canadians. Here we see CiCi and Angela from China taking part with their host family in finding, cutting, and bringing a Christmas tree back to the home-stay family home.

Every September the newly arrived students take part in a day of orientation. The final event on orientation day is an exciting afternoon adventure of river rafting. This activity is well loved by the students and really awakens them to all this area has to offer them while they are here. In the photo we have students from Mexico, Germany, and Korea.

Bruno Dondi, goalie from Brazil, playing on the midget Nelson Leafs team, makes a terrific save during a game in Nelson. Bruno lives for hockey and wants one day to become a professional NHL goalie. Luis has been a very valuable member of the Nelson Leafs Midget team. He has supported the team with numerous goals and assists and also has dreams of becoming a professional hockey player.
Under the leadership of Lindsay Robertson, a group of international students and local volunteers gather together in the foods room at LVR to bake cookies for food hampers to be given to disadvantaged homes in Nelson over the holidays. 2000 cookies were baked for the hampers, not including the ones that didn’t work out or were burned, but a great effort from Amie and Hye Won from Korea pictured in this photo.
