COUNSELLING SERVICES

Educational, career, personal, and social counselling services are available for students attending L.V. Rogers Secondary School.

The counsellors help students:

1. prepare for graduation;
2. complete Transitions program;
3. plan for post-secondary education;
4. apply for scholarships;
5. resolve personal concerns; and
6. acquire good study habits.

The counsellors are available during the school day and by appointment. Their offices are on the first floor.

COURSE PLANNING AND CAREER EXPLORATION

Students can seek assistance from the counsellors when selecting courses each year. It is important that students and parents recognize how course and program choices relate to graduation, future occupations, and post-secondary entrance requirements.

Calendars, brochures, pamphlets and website addresses are available in the counselling centre area on the first floor to assist students with career decisions, scholarship information, and post-secondary education. For more information students are asked to check out the 'Student Info' tab or contact Ms. Smith in the counselling area.

Tutors
Students may need extra help with their schoolwork. The counsellors can help students find peer tutors from within the school or tutors in the community who can assist them with their studies.

LEARNING SUPPORT

The Learning Support Area (Room 205) is available for students who would like support with their schoolwork and/or study skills, or desire a quiet place to study or to use a computer. Teachers and paraeducators are available to assist students in 'flex time', during lunch, and even before classes. Students or parents can contact Mr. Gillingham or Mrs. Boscariol to discuss possible support.

PERSONAL CONCERNS

Counsellors are available to discuss questions or concerns that may arise. These concerns could be related to courses, career, relationships with friends or family, or other matters. The counsellors can also help students make contact with community agencies that can provide support.
