Each of the awards below are available for students to apply for in one simple online application form (click here).  Before you do your application, please carefully read each of the bursaries, scholarships and award descriptions to see which you may be most eligible for.  This way when you fill out your application, you can provide the necessary information.  Please see Ms. Wiltshire for any questions.

Criteria:  Students are required to be full time students at LVR/DESK, taking at least 5 out of 8 courses.

Completing the online survey form (click here) enters you automatically for all the awards listed below. 

ANGELO MASTROBUONO BURSARY 

CRITERIA: Consideration will be based upon financial need.
HISTORY: In memory of Angelo Mastrobuono, a City of Nelson employee, killed accidentally on the job. Angelo will be remembered for his great work ethic and his dedication to learning.

BARRY CRISPIN MEMORIAL (SPONSORED BY H&R BLOCK) BURSARY 
CRITERIA: Students pursuing their education in the field of business.
HISTORY: In memory of Barry Crispin, a former student of L.V. Rogers.

BRIAN McGRATH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP/BURSARY 
CRITERIA: Consideration will be given based on financial need.
HISTORY: In memory of Brian McGrath, a former teacher at L.V. Rogers.

CANADIAN FEDERATION OF UNIVERSITY WOMEN SCHOLARSHIP (Elizabeth Wallach Scholarship)
CRITERIA: A young woman entering university or college, good academic standing, community involvement and financial need. Please contact Cathy Luegner, President for more information at nelsoncfuw@gmail.com or cathyleugner@gmail.com.

CAITLYND PIDERMAN BURSARY
CRITERIA: For a student who is trying to overcome health challenges, or student must be an athlete that shows superior determination, effort and commitment to sport.
HISTORY: Caitlynd was a 2006 L.V. Rogers graduate who loved basketball.

CITY OF NELSON EMPLOYEES MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA:  Preference to children of City of Nelson employees in permanent positions with greater than five years of service.  If none, then open to general student population.  Equal weight to community oriented, academic/trades, leadership and athletics.

CIVIC THEATRE SOCIETY AWARD
CRITERIA: Students who hold/held employment/volunteer hours with the Civic Theatre and are entering post secondary studies in digital film or media arts studies related field.

COLUMBIA POWER CORPORATION BURSARY
CRITERIA:  Student must be enrolled in a post-secondary institution within one year of high school graduation.  Demonstrates excellence in achievement during Grade 12, not necessarily highest GPA, but has worked hard and shows a real desire to excel.  Award can only be used towards tuition and or books specific to program enrolled in.

​DELANE H. REED - FRATERNAL ORDER OF EAGLES #22 SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA: One male and one female furthering their education in non-academic studies (trade school, business administration, etc.).
HISTORY: In memory of Delane H. Reed, a Past President and long time active member of Nelson Lodge #22.

Fraser Memorial Scholarship **new**

CRITERIA: To worthy students who plan to continue their post-secondary education to include college, university, trade, vocational or artistic training and private music lessons.
HISTORY: Established in 1991 by Jim Fraser, a teacher at Nelson High School in the name of his wife Margaret and himself.

GRADS BC PHOTOGRAPHY & VIDEO - EXCELLENCE IN MEDIA AWARDS
CRITERIA:  A student pursuing post secondary education in the arts - photography, video or graphics/design.

GYRO CLUB OF NELSON SCHOLARSHIP 
CRITERIA: Strong academics.  Preference will be given to a student with a Gyro family member.

HOME HARDWARE STUDENT AND ATHLETE SUPPORT SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA:  For students who have been successful & dedicated to their school work and also in their chosen sport. Should be passionate about their sport and be continuing at post secondary level.  One male and one female scholarship awarded.

HORIE FAMILY BURSARY 
CRITERIA: Student is proceeding with post-secondary education in media/visual arts and has a demonstrated financial need.

HUESTIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP 
CRITERIA: Student has a strong interest in sports, music or art and they reflect determination and humility. Financial need is also significant.
HISTORY: Established in 1986 in memory of Bob Huestis Jr. He is remembered as a unique individual with a wide range of interests including sports, art and music.

IODE (KOKANEE CHAPTER)  FINE ARTS/TECHNOLOGY/TRADES SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA:  Pursuit of a career in fine arts, a technology or a trade. Three awards are available.

John Carter & Bill Bing Memorial Bursary **new**

CRITERIA: Proceeding with post-secondary education in the fields of natural history, environmental studies or parks management.
HISTORY: Carter and Bing were two avid outdoorsmen with respect for and appreciation of the wilderness. In 1996, both men gave their lives in the pursuit of safety for others. John by an avalanche while patrolling ski runs and Bill by a plane crash while searching for a downed plane.

JESSIE ANN WARD BURSARY
CRITERIA:  Student in fine arts program.

Kerry Dyck Memorial Scholarship **new**

CRITERIA: Applicant must be a student athlete from LVR who shows committment to excellence in the classroom and on the playing field.  High preference to athletes who are dedicated to soccer.  Must have a minimun of a B average for course work in grades 11 & 12.

KOOTENAY LAKE HEALTHCARE AUXILIARY (NELSON CHAPTER) SCHOLARSHIP 
CRITERIA: Student is pursuing post-secondary education in any field of health care, and is a resident of Nelson or surrounding area. Applications include present activities, future plans and financial need.  Volunteering in a medical facility and letters of support will be considered by the selection committee.

KOOTENAY LAKE DENTAL SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA:   A student who excels both academically and in the community.

KOOTENAY LAKE PRINCIPALS’ & VICE-PRINCIPALS’ ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP 
CRITERIA: A minimum grade point average of 3.2 over your best seven courses. 

KOOTENAY SAVINGS COMMUNITY FOUNDATION BURSARY
CRITERIA: MUST be a member or have an immediate family member of Kootenay Savings Credit Union. Your KSCU membership number must appear on the application.  Must be enrolled full time in a post secondary institution - technology, university, college or vocational.  For more information, please contact Aron Burke at 1-250-368-2683.

LOIS MCKINNON LEGACY FUND SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA:  Provide one or more bursaries for graduates, with preference to those pursuing post secondary studies in nursing.

LOUIS & MARGUERITE SANTOR BURSARY 
CRITERIA: High academic achievement. Furthering education in the field of medicine, including veterinary medicine. Preference may be given to a student with evidence of financial need. 

NELSON ITALIAN CANADIAN SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP 
CRITERIA: Preference to member of the Nelson Italian Canadian Society Club.
Two awards: One for a student attending post secondary, and one for student enrolled in a trades program.

NELSON LIONS CLUB SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA:  One male and one female.  Preference will be given to a son or daughter of a Nelson Lions Club member. Consideration will also be given to a good school record in a variety of subjects(C+ average) as well as evidence of leadership, community service and/or involvement in the arts.

Nelson Covenant Church Leadership Recognition Scholarship **new**

CRITERIA: This Scholarship will be awarded to a "student leader" who exercises transformational leadership in his/her community. A transformational leader is one who uses their influence to support the well being and growth of others.  Transformation leaders empower, humbly serve others and use their talents and skills to help encourage others to develop their potential. Applicants must meet graduation requirements, be currently enrolled in SD8 and planning on attending post secondary enrollment.  More information available from Susan in the office.

NELSON AND DISTRICT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA: Student pursuing business administration or related field. 

NELSON AND DISTRICT TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
CRITERIA: Student who is interested in education or human resources at university, college or trade school.

NELSON HIGH SCHOOL REUNION 1937-1952 SCHOLARSHIP 
CRITERIA: Pursing further education.
HISTORY: Established in 1991 by the reunion committee.

NELSON MASONIC LODGE SCHOLARSHIP 
CRITERIA: One male and one female based on citizenship, group/club activities, fine arts involvement, C+ average.

NELSON MINOR HOCKEY ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA: Student has been involved in Nelson Minor Hockey, displays dedication, sportsmanship and shows respect on and off the ice.

NELSON PILOTS’ ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP 
CRITERIA: Pursuing a career in the aviation industry (e.g. air crew, aeronautical engineer, aircraft maintenance). 

NELSON ROAD KINGS SCHOLARSHIP
CRITERIA: For students whose post secondary plans are related to the automotive field. This may include mechanics, body repair and sales as well as welding, electrical and millwright/machinist.

ORMOND FAMILY BURSARY 
CRITERIA: High degree of excellence in Fine Arts with first consideration to a Theatre Arts student.

PHARMASAVE SCHOLARSHIP 
CRITERIA: A student that is interested in sciences and has demonstrated community service. 

SCHOOL DISTRICT #8 ABORIGINAL EDUCATION AWARD
CRITERIA: To a deserving student that has been actively involved in the Aboriginal Education Program.

SELKIRK PAVING BURSARY
CRITERIA: The successful candidate must plan to continue their post-secondary education including college, university, trade or vocational. They must demonstrate leadership, citizenship, and involvement in school or community activities along with tenacity, effort, and attitude.

SHELLY SARTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP (SELKIRK EYECARE)
CRITERIA: Pursuing a career in science/health care.
​In memory of Shelly Sarton.

STROMSTEAD BURSARY 
CRITERIA: Furthering his/her education in a science or mathematics related field. Demonstrates interest and knowledge in the area of information technology.
HISTORY: Established in 1997 by Edward and Gladys Stromstead for L.V. Rogers students furthering their studies.

T.A.S.K. BURSARY 
CRITERIA: This achievement award is for students with special needs.

T.A.S.K. SCHOLARSHIP 
CRITERIA:  Student enrolling in social work, early childhood education, community support worker, residential support worker or other related human services field. 

WEST KOOTENAY TELUS COMMUNITY AMBASSADORS BURSARY 
CRITERIA: Preference given to applicant with immediate family connection to Telus/BC Tel (current or retired). If no family, min. C+ avg., leadership, community service and/or involvement in the arts, enrolling in post-secondary institution.

ZEABIN MEMORIAL BURSARY
CRITERIA: Applicants who are furthering their education in language study.
HISTORY: Kenneth Zeabin was born in Nelson in 1971. He believed in equality and that “life must go on”.  He enjoyed life to the fullest and fought bravely his battle against muscular dystrophy.
