There are a number of external scholarships and bursaries available. Both directly from the university and colleges and various sponsoring organizations. You'll have to do some digging and research!
Each of these has it's own individual application, specific criteria, and unique deadline.

Application dates range from September to July. Be sure to check with each sponsor directly since processes and requirements for scholarships may have changed. Students are responsible to research each scholarship, be aware of the individual deadlines, and know the criteria for each.

If you are considering doing post-secondary, but feel limited by costs and need financial support, consider applying for the Education Awards from the Credit Union Foundation of BC. The next application period is January 1st to February 15th - see the link below or come to counselling board where there is current information.
RCMP TROOP 17 SCHOLARSHIP
The RCMP's Troop 17 Scholarship was established to recognize students who have made significant efforts toward the prevention of bullying and harassment in their schools and/or communities. Up to five scholarships in the amount of $1000 will be awarded annually to full-time college or university students. How to apply and completed application forms, references, and proof of enrollment in a full-time post-secondary program should be submitted by mail or e-mail contact below. Deadline for applications for the 2018 Troop 17 Scholarship is June 29, 2019.
We award scholarships to youth who have faced adversity in their lives and demonstrated tenacity. Many of our students would not be able to access post-secondary education without our help. With hard work and our support, their dreams can become reality.
In order to be eligible for a TCF Scholarship, applicants must:
- Be a current resident of BC
- Be in Grade 12 or a recent secondary school graduate,
- Have demonstrated financial need,
- Have faced adversity,
- Plan to be a full-time student,
- Be ineligible for the BC Tuition Waiver Program (for former youth in care),
- Use funding for a post-secondary institution, trade or college, and
- Be endorsed by their school principal.
Applications are due February 15th of each year for post-secondary enrollment commencing not later than September of that year.
All applicants must be endorsed by their secondary school. The principal’s nomination letter must be included with the application.
Each BC secondary school may only nominate one application unless prior permission received. Applications must be completed online.

Council of Forest Industries is offering ten $1500.00 scholarships to deserving 2018 graduating high school students enrolling in one of the ten BC interior post-secondary institutions for September 2018. These scholarships are open to students enrolling in forestry, technical trades, business, or science programs (see application for specific programs). This external scholarship application deadline is May 31st, please submit your application directly to the sponsor. SELKIRK COLLEGE ENTRANCE SCHOLARSHIPS
Grads who plan on attending Selkirk College next year, the College has opened up their entrance scholarships. This is an external award - apply directly to the college. These are based on academic achievement and are up to $1500. Students can apply by using the online application at http://www.selkirk.ca/entrance-scholarships. Please note that applications close March 31st. Once your application is submitted the school will arrange for your marks to be submitted to Selkirk College.

RE/MAX of Western Canada has renewed the Quest for Excellence bursary program. This year we are once again offering (16) $1,000 bursaries for a total of $16,000 to grade 12 students. BCPVPA Student Scholarships
The BC Principals’ and Vice-Principals’ Association annually awards up to 20 scholarships, in the amount of $1000 each, to students who are graduating from the BC public school system and will proceed to a post-secondary institution.
- Up to 10 scholarships are reserved for the sons and daughters of BCPVPA members.
- Up to 10 scholarships are reserved to other graduating students.
- Up to 2 scholarships will be awarded to Aboriginal students.
All applicants will be judged on academic excellence and demonstrated leadership within the school and community.

BC Retired PVPA Student Scholarships (Due last Friday in September)
The BC Retired PVPA annually awards four $1000 scholarships to students who are graduating form the BC public school system and will proceed to a BC post-secondary institution. Students with a strong academic standing, combined with demonstrated leadership with the school and community are encouraged to apply. The BC Retired PVPA supports students who will be attending university, college, or a skills-based program (e.g. technology, film, cooking, trades, etc). The deadline for applications is the last Friday in September of each year. Students must be enrolled in their chosen program of study to complete the application. http://bcrpvpa.ca/
BC School Superintendents' Scholarship
Students wishing to be considered for a scholarship must be currently enrolled in their final year of studies at a public secondary school in British Columbia and expected to graduate in June 2018. One winner will be chosen from each of the six BCSSA provincial chapters (Fraser Valley, Kootenay-Boundary, Metro, Vancouver Island, Northern, Thompson-Okanagan). Each winner will be awarded a $1000 scholarship.
In selecting the recipients for this year's awards, the scholarship committees will consider demonstrated exemplary service and leadership within the school and community. Letters of reference will be required affirming the applicant's accomplishments and efforts to improve the quality of life for young people and others through volunteer work and other activities. In addition, the applicant must submit a short description (450 words maximum) of how his/her volunteer service has made a difference in the life or lives of others.
The winners will be announced in late spring 2018.
BC School Sports Scholarships
BC School Sports Scholarships are available this year, including the BC Dairy Association Scholarship.

Post-Secondary Awards Information
All post-secondary Institutions offer entrance scholarships and bursaries. In order to qualify for an entrance scholarship from a post secondary institution you must have applied and plan on attending that post secondary institution in the fall. Students need to check university and/or college 'viewbooks' and websites for details. Applicants should make sure that they follow all instructions very carefully and meet all deadlines.

Schulich Leadership Scholarship
The Schulich Leader Scholarships program recognizes students across Canada who demonstrate excellence in academics and community leadership, and plan to study in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) areas at either of UBC’s campuses during their undergraduate degree.
Schulich Leader Scholarships were created by Canadian business leader and philanthropist Seymour Schulich and is managed by the UJA Federation of Greater Toronto. Mr. Schulich is a noted entrepreneur and philanthropist, who believes strongly in supporting young people in their pursuit of science and technology.

UBC Major Entrance Scholarship
UBC is looking for the most accomplished and promising Canadian citizens and permanent residents to join our community. The Major Entrance Scholarship (MES) program offers the most prestigious awards available to entering students at UBC, including a
one-time award of approximately $5,000 and renewable awards of up to $40,000 payable over four years.
These scholarships recognize students who excel across the board and who have demonstrated academic and leadership achievements in the arts, community, athletics, and school. Deadline for application is December 10th.
Horatio Alger Association of Canada
Provides $650,000 annually in need-based scholarship support for deserving students in all Canadian provinces and territories. Aboriginal Student Awards Program (RBC)
Applications and supporting documents are to be received by RBC by 11:59 pm EST on February 28, of each year. If selected, the applicant must provide proof of her/his acceptance to university or college and eligible status by July 31.
You will receive up to $4,000 per academic year for educational and living expenses for two to four years.

RE/MAX of Western Canada Quest for Excellence bursary program closes March 12, 2019, lets get the word out there!

BCSTA Scholarships for Student Citizenship: Each year, BCSTA selects graduating BC public school students who have either:
Displayed exemplary citizenship within their school and community as recipients of the BCSTA Student Citizenship Scholarship.
Excelled at communication studies and have expressed an interest in using their communications skills in the support of public policy and education as recipients of the Jean Ciriani Scholarship for Communications.
For 2019, BCSTA is awarding a single scholarship in the amount of $1,500 in honour of the late Jean Ciriani, a former communications director for the Association.

The BC Government Employees Union offers scholarships of $2000 for full-time students and $1000 for part-time students, planning on attending post secondary educational institutions. Applicants must be a BCGEU member, or related to a current, retired or deceased BCGEU member or staff, and a student or prospective post secondary or higher student planning on attending an eligible institution in 2020. Eligible relatives include spouses, parents;, and children or grandchildren (indlucing foster, adopted and step children/grandchildren). Eligible institutions must be designated by Employment and Social Development Canada. Previous scholarship recipients are not eligible.
Applicants will be required to provide personal information, details about your educational plan and write a short essay of 450-500 words in response to one of three questions.
