LVR Community Weekly Update - 04Mar23

Image

Good day out there, LVR Community.

Thank you to the Rec Leadership class and other LVR volunteers for being involved in the Coldest Night of the Year in Nelson on February 25 in support of raising money for local charities serving people experiencing hurt, hunger, and homelessness.

Thank you also to those who have supported our Junior Boys' Basketball team's trip to Langley for provincials last week and our Physics Olympics team who is currently at UBC!

Scholarship Season - repeat from last week

Grade 12 families, please note that we are working on confirming with donors which scholarships will continue to be available this year.  Once we have this completed, we will have the application processes on our website and will share these out widely.  There are the following three types of scholarships to apply for.

  • Type 1 - Donor scholarships in which students choose which to apply for through one google form sent out by the school.  School staff decide on the recipients for most of these with a few decided upon by the donor.
  • Type 2 - Donor scholarships in which students apply for each scholarship directly to the donor.  Donors decide on the recipients.
  • Type 3 - SD8 district scholarships in which students apply through a district process.  District team decides on the recipients.  See https://www.sd8.bc.ca/parents-students/scholarships and talk with LVR Counsellors for details.

Course Selection for 2023-24

All students currently registered to LVR for gr. 10-12 next year should now have completed their course selections for 2023-24.  Next for us is to to check through these to be sure we have accurate student information to begin the complex process of scheduling, timetabling, and determining teacher assignments to get the best fit possible for the many variables involved.
