Convocation In Person!

The first in-person convocation in SD 8 in the last two years took place on Friday, June 10.

L.V. Rogers Secondary held a graduation ceremony that saw full community in-person participation and the return of the valedictorian. Our graduates, and school community were very excited!

The ceremony included diploma/scholarship presentations, MLA and superintendent addresses and a speech from our 2022 Valedictorians - Jack Steer and Sam Kitch. Both students are student council members and Sam is a student trustee. The LVR student body voted for the valedictorian role to be shared by these two well-rounded graduates.

The Valedictorian process began after spring break when nominations were collected. Nominees were then contacted and asked to submit a short biography, and presented in front of the graduating class. Students voted for who they wanted to represent them and speak for them in front of the Class of 2022 and their families, teachers and the broader community.

Jack and Sam are well-rounded students who have taken initiative to advocate for and represent the entire student population and gave an excellent, heartfelt speech to their peers. They emphasized that graduating from high school following two years of a pandemic and everything else going on in the world is a major accomplishment. They also stressed the importance of each graduate taking the time to recognize this milestone and to acknowledge, “You are here. You made it!” The future will follow.
