In-house collaboration makes LVR grad stage accessible to all
The SD8 carpentry team worked closely with L.V. Rogers Secondary School leaders to develop an innovative design for accessibility ramps leading to the temporary stage on the floor of the Nelson and District Community Complex at the LVR and REACH graduation ceremonies on Friday, June 12.
The ramps, custom built in the SD8 carpentry shop in Nelson, will allow students of all abilities, clothing types and footwear choices to access the stage to receive their diplomas in in front of family, friends, teachers and community members as everyone joins together to celebrate their high school graduation.
"These kinds of projects standout for us in Operations. We proudly work in the background supporting teachers and students to achieve this momentous milestone, and in building these we literally get to help them across the stage," said Director of Operations Chris Kerr.
The durable wooden ramps are constructed in sections for easier transport, storage and assembly, and will be available for use in future grad ceremonies at the NDCC or where ramp access to the temporary stage is required.
