LVR Receives Legion/Golden Star Award

The BCRTA Excellence in Education Committee has made the decision to award the Legion/Golden Star Award for 2019 to the LV Rogers Secondary School  in Nelson.

Students in the program entitled: "Growing Together, Rising Strong" developed a greater interest in history and formed stronger bonds with the seniors in the group who had shared their wartime experiences. They talked about the sacrifices that led to the peace and freedom we enjoy in Canada and the importance of protecting our freedoms. Their meetings led to the production of a book about their conversations. The teacher responsible for the development of the program is Carla Wilson.

Students and seniors involved in this program are inviting you to their year end picnic and the Award Presentation ceremony at Lakeside Park on Thursday, June 20, 2019. The picnic starts at 12:30 p.m. with the Award  Ceremony to follow at 1:15  pm.  Food for the picnic will  be    provided.

The Award Presentation ceremony will include presentation of the BC Retired Teachers' Association statue and a cheque. The Legion award money will be used, in part, to produce a documentary film about the second phase of the "Growing Together" program.

Congratulations to teacher Carla Wilson for spearheading this initiative.
