Type four scholarships are external or separate from university and college awards as well as separate and outside of our school or district. These are called external scholarships that are either provincial or national.
Review all the information below and decide which annual scholarships and bursaries from different associations and groups are most suitable for you to apply for - they are listed alphabetically by category timeline(Fall, Winter or Spring) for when scholarships open & close

READ CAREFULLY WHERE TO SUBMIT THE APPLICATIONS AND DEADLINES FOR EACH AWARD *A few of the external scholarships require that LVR provide a nominee, counselors will announce instructions through the grad google classroom on when/how to show interest in these.
Fall Scholarships (September to December)
BC ACHIEVEMENT SCHOLARSHIP (Provincial Scholarships Program)
Amount: $1250
Criteria: The BC Achievement scholarship recognizes the 8,000 graduates with the top academic achievement in the province. For the purpose of this scholarship, academic achievement is based on the subset of grades 10–12 courses that are used to meet graduation requirements (including electives). Most students graduate with more credits than required; only the courses used to meet graduation requirements are considered.

Deadline: Students do NOT apply for the BC Achievement scholarship. If a student is eligible, their grades will be automatically considered by the Ministry of Education & Child Care
Beedie Luminaries
Amount: up to $20-44,000
Criteria: The Beedie Luminaries Scholarship is for students with potential who are facing financial adversity. Students who are smart but constrained by circumstance, who are resilient, who are ready to make a positive change in their lives. Apply to to one of four scholarship programs Grade 12 students, single parents, immigrants and refugees

Golf Scholarships - Junior - The Player Development Trust Fund
Amount: $2000
Criteria: The Player Development Trust Fund will award ten scholarships to promising young “scholastic golfers” to assist them with tuition and other educational expenses in pursuing a post-secondary education.

Kin Canada Bursaries
Amount: $1000
Criteria: Bursaries are awarded to successful Canadian applicants who are pursuing post-secondary education. Will be evaluated on their community and school involvement, knowledge of Kin Canada and financial need.

LORAN AWARD
Amount: $3000/6000 up to $100,000 over 4 years
Criteria: Loran knows that identifying promising young people who have the power to create a brighter future means looking beyond grades. Through our in-depth, nationwide selections process, we find those who demonstrate strength of character, a deep commitment to service, and sparks of exceptional leadership potential.

TD SCHOLARSHIP FOR COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP
Amount: up to $70,000
Criteria: For leadership students who have demonstrated consistent and outstanding dedication to helping improve the world by solving a social or community problem.

TERRY FOX SCHOLARSHIP
Amount: $7000 to $28,000
Criteria: The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award is open to students of all abilities and all fields of study. Terry Fox Humanitarian Award recipients are selected for their dedication to the humanitarian ideals of Terry Fox, their courage in overcoming obstacles, and definite marks of distinction and persistence in the pursuit of excellence in academic, athletic, and civic life.
We are looking for humanitarians, those who improve human welfare, make a difference, and have a positive impact on the community and others.

Winter Scholarships (January to spring break)
BC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIPS ( BC Provincial Scholarship Program)
Amount: $5000
Criteria: The BC Excellence scholarship is awarded to 55 high school graduates who have demonstrated service and leadership, both at school and in their communities, and who show aptitude for and commitment to their chosen career or area of post-secondary study.

BC HYDRO – POWER PIONEERS
Amount: $500
Criteria: The BC Hydro Power Pioneers annual Community Service Awards recognize students who dedicate a significant amount of their time and energy to volunteering in their local communities.

BCGEU SCHOLARSHIPS
Amount: $1000/2000 and up to $90,000 over four years
Criteria: BC General Employees Union Scholarship for full or part-time students whose family has membership in BCGEU including immediate relatives, parent, grandparent, foster parent of current, retired or deceased BCGEU member and staff.

BC PRINCIPALS’ & VICE PRINCIPALS’ ASSN. SCHOLARSHIPS
Amount: $1000
Criteria: Applicants are assessed on academic excellence and demonstrated leadership within the school and community and are pursuing education in trades, technical, and career fields, as well as those entering universities and colleges, are encouraged to apply.

BC SCHOOL SPORTS SCHOLARSHIPS AND AWARDS
Amount: $750 to $1500
Criteria: School Sports Scholarships provide various awards to reward excellence in both scholastic and athletic pursuits. The successful applicants will be student-athletes who have balanced their high academic achievements with significant success as school athletes and contributions to their community.

BC SCHOOL SUPERINTENDENTS ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP
Amount: $1500
Criteria: The applicant must submit a short description (450 words maximum) of how their leadership has made a difference in the life or lives of others in their school and/or community. Leadership examples may include, but are not limited to, the following domains: arts, trades, physicality, scholastics, social justice, equity, well-being, diversity, advocacy, and cultural responsiveness.

BC SCHOOL TRUSTEES’ ASSOCIATION SCHOLARSHIP (STUDENT CITIZENSHIP)
Amount: $750
Criteria: The BCSTA Student Citizenship Scholarship recognizes students for outstanding contributions that they have made to their school and community. scholarships will be awarded to students who are continuing their educational journey in post secondary or skills and careers training through a recognized institution.

CERTIFIED GENERAL ACCOUNTANTS OF BC SCHOLARSHIPS

Criteria: CPAEF is proud to support BC's high school and post-secondary students, CPA candidates and members, and BC's educators with various funding opportunities, including scholarships, bursaries and research grants.

Criteria: FCM's annual scholarship program rewards young women / girls / non-binary individuals who are contributing to their school's leadership team or student council and who take on challenges and try to bring about change that benefits their peers and / or community.

Zarko Perko Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $2500
Criteria: Any students of Croatian heritage in British Columbia connected to athletics, volunteering, service and academic success planning to study post secondary education.

MENSA CANADA SCHOLARSHIPS
Amount: $1000
Criteria: The Mensa Canada General Scholarship is an award offered annually, as funding permits. Applicants are invited to write a short essay in which they detail their career plan, list their accomplishments to date, and describe what they plan to in do order to achieve their future career goals.

Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship (Provincial Scholarship Program)
Amount: $5000
Criteria: The Pathway to Teacher Education scholarship is awarded to outstanding high school graduates who have demonstrated a commitment to and aptitude for a career in K–12 teaching.

Re/MAX OF WESTERN CANADA QUEST FOR EXCELLENCE
Amount: $1000
Criteria: The RE/MAX Quest for Excellence scholarship program is a cash scholarship that recognizes students for their ongoing community contributions and pursuit of leadership.Application: link for website information & application

ROYAL BANK SCHOLARSHIPS
Amount: $1500/2500 to $10,000
Criteria: The scholarship program was created to assist young adults to further their education at the university or college level. Scholarships are awarded based on a student's academic record, extracurricular activities, letters of reference and essay sharing career aspirations.

SCHULICH LEADER SCHOLARSHIP
Amount: $100-120,000
Criteria: Schulich Leaders exemplify academic excellence and an entrepreneurial mindset (demonstrating leadership, charisma and creativity), with strong consideration for financial need. Our Schulich Leaders are pursuing careers in technology, engineering, entrepreneurship and business enterprise, and applied scientific research.

Spring Scholarships (March to summer)
ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL TRANSPORTATION SERVICES OF BC (ASTSBC)
Amount: $1000-$7000
Criteria: The Association of School Transportation Services of British Columbia (ASTSBC) will award a scholarship to eligible student(s) attending an educational facility in the Province of British Columbia for the express purpose of attaining certification as a Commercial Heavy Duty Mechanic.

AUTOMOTIVE RETAILERS ASSOCIATION INC.
Amount: $1000-$5500
Criteria: The Automotive Retailers Association Inc. offers different scholarship opportunities. To be eligible, applicants must have completed a secondary school automotive, YTTprogram by the end of the current school year. We are looking for those who have demonstrated a flair for and a genuine interest in pursuing a career in the automotive trades and plan to enroll in a Red Seal apprenticeship.

BC ARTS COUNCIL SCHOLARSHIP
Amount: $3000
Criteria: The Scholarship Program supports education and training of B.C.’s future generation of artists, arts administrators, and arts and cultural practitioners. B.C. residents enrolled in full-time post-secondary art programs or high school half-day pre-professional dance programs are welcome to apply. Students should be committed to developing their independent artistic and creative practice towards a career in the arts and culture sector.

BC ASSOCIATION OF HEALTHCARE AUXILIARIES

Criteria: Preference will be given to students who have completed 50 volunteer hours in an Auxiliary sponsored program, or within their Community. Must be enrolled in a human healthcare program of studies in a recognized post-secondary institution.

BCEA ELECTRICAL SCHOLARSHIPS BURSARIES
Amount: $500-1000
Criteria: The BC Electrical Association has been very active in promoting careers in the electrical industry.Scholarships are available to dependents, including grandchildren of personnel of BCEA member companies in good standing as well as students actively pursuing a career as an electrician.

CANADIAN MENTAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION FOR ALL
Amount: $700-$1000
Criteria: Various scholarships and bursaries available. CMHA BC has been helping people with mental illness further their pursuit of post-secondary education through our scholarship and bursary programs. We are committed to lowering access barriers and would like to ensure that these scholarships and bursaries are available to anyone in British Columbia with lived experience who is pursuing higher education.

CANFOR GOOD THINGS COME FROM TREES
Amount: $1000 (more than 1 available / school)
Criteria: For graduating students in its operating communities to encourage young people to choose a professional, technical or trades career pathway that supports the forest and wood products manufacturing sector, areas of study can also include business. Eligible students must complete the application form and submit it to their school counsellor for review for nomination.

EDUCATIONAL FACILITY MANAGERS ASSOCIATION OF BC

Criteria: Preference will be given to students entering the fields of engineering, architecture, or building technology. Should there not be suitable applications received in these fields, students in other courses of study will be considered, however, all applicants MUST be dependents of school district employees in the school facilities area (i.e. Maintenance or Custodial).

TRIUMF HIGH SCHOOL FELLOWSHIP SCHOLARSHIP
Amount: $4000 award for summer study
Criteria: The Young Engineers and Scientists (YES!) Fellowship program offers six-week summer research experiences to graduating secondary students in British Columbia entering their first year at a recognized post-secondary institution. The fellowships are located at TRIUMF. The fellowship includes an award of about $4,000 plus travel and housing allowances for those students outside Metro Vancouver.

- Research each site or link above you may need to do a search if the direct link is not working. There are so many opportunities, your time and energy will pay off…
- Awards, scholarships and bursaries may change; ensure to view each one carefully for this year’s description, application criteria and deadlines. Keep track of the MONTH and date when it is due, many start in September and will go throughout the year, including even the summer. Applications will open and close at various times of the year.
- Once you have done your research, feel free to consult with counsellors as you fill out your applications.
