Nelson Cavalcade Parade Protocol - 2025
-
As per the British Columbia Motor Vehicle Act, the speed limit for a parade in the City of Nelson shall not exceed 20 km per hour.
-
All participants will obey directions from Nelson Police Officers and Nelson Police Reserve Officers along with civilian volunteers directing traffic flow.
-
Stunting, burning tires or any other activity considered dangerous to public welfare is not permitted. Any driver observed exhibiting such behaviour will be removed from the parade and ticketed accordingly.
-
The parade of vehicles will be a continual flow with no gaps. Please do not stop at traffic lights as the intersections will be closed to cross traffic for the duration of the Parade. If there is a need to stop traffic for Emergency vehicles, the Nelson Police Department will stop the Parade to allow an Emergency Vehicle to cross.
-
No alcohol will be permitted in vehicles. Drivers are advised not to consume alcohol before the Parade.
-
Drivers are responsible for the overall mechanical condition of their vehicles, in compliance with the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations. In particular, ensure the vehicle has proper brakes and unobstructed vision for the driver.
-
Please do not throw candy from your vehicles for spectators to pick up. This is extremely dangerous as children will run out onto the Parade route to pick up the candies.
