LVR Weekly Update - 04May25

Good day out there, LVR Community.

This week's main image comes from Ms. Kitch & Mr. Parnell moderating a debate between candidates in the upcoming federal election in the library with an audience of 60 students. Thanks also to Ms. Kitch & Ms. Martin for their work on preparing students for & running the Student Vote, with roles taken on by Student Council. Pics below include members of our LVR Green Team, led by Mr. Wooldridge with ongoing support from community member Terry Lund, in the Nelson Earth Week Parade last weekend, as well as LVR students involved in SD8's first Indigenous Games event held across school sites.

Our ATLAS program, led by Mr. Marshall, is featured in this article in the Nelson Star for their involvement in local environmental stewardship projects, including cleaning up Troupe Beach and donation proceeds from their ski waxing day to Friends of Kootenay Lake.

Come join this year's Grad Talent Show this Thursday, May 8 at the Capitol Theatre! This year promises to be a truly amazing show, with dancing, singing, bands, and more! Click the link above to purchase tickets.

A big congratulations to all of our grade 12's who have already secured significant scholarship money for post-secondary. Check out the press release for Corben Mikol becoming SD8's latest Loran Scholar!

Biking students, please sure to wear helmets! There have been a number of bike accidents in Nelson over the past few years involving youth and helmets have prevented serious brain injuries.

Bussing families, be sure to read the announcement for registering for bussing for the 2025-26 school year.  All students requesting SD8 school busing privileges MUST register annually.

Please see the updated schedule for LVR School Counsellors below and welcome to Ms. Claire Hewson who will be joining us on Wednesdays & Fridays.

Ongoing Details...

Take care, everyone.
