The French Immersion program consists of 3 courses in grade 10, 2 courses in grade 11, and one course in grade 12. The language of instruction of these courses is French only.

Students are expected to communicate in French at all times during their Immersion classes, including field trips and outings. Texts, readings and instruction are all in French.

French Immersion students will graduate with a bilingual Dogwood Certificate after completing each of the following courses:

  • Français Langue Seconde Immersion (FRAL) 10, 11 and 12
  • Sciences Humaines 10 and 11 (Social Studies Graduation Requirements in French)
  • French Career Education

Students who wish to graduate with this bilingual certificate are required to write the FRAL 12 provincial assessment in French, along with the English Graduation Literacy & Numeracy Assessments.

French Immersion Opportunities

Each year there may be additional opportunities for language enrichment. The School District’s French Coordinator will discuss these opportunities with students and parents as they arise.
